So the NetGem sets a bar that any new YouView hardware would have to limbo under.
If TalkTalk intend to provide a decent TV service and not just be a broadband provider (and the appointment of Susie Buckridge suggests that they do) then surely they need a new box? yes, the link in the other thread that takes you to the TalkTalk offerings does show that it’s NetGem only with the top tier of broadband, and still YouView for everyone else. Coupled with TalkTalk’s Fibre 65 package, the 4K TV Box will transform the in-home multiscreen entertainment experience for just 4 extra a month, saving TalkTalk TV customers up to 216 over 18 months vs BT, Sky and Virgin Media. (It would be good to have some input from someone who's well-informed about TalkTalk - perhaps?) So all of TalkTalk's other TV customers are struggling on with the dreadful Huawei boxes which are about 10 years old.
I've only just realised that the Netgem box is only available to Future Fibre customers - that means FTTP.
OK, but a new box with 1 tuner, no HDD, Wi-Fi, 4K HDR, Dolby Atmos, Bluetooth remote and the YouView UI would interest me. So 1 tuner, no HDD… I’ve lost interest already ? the ONLY thing about it is at least its not costing me more money to run it as the deal saved me a fiver a month from my existing deal!! and i can cancel in 12 months (thank goodness!!) and i will be doing that for sure. Then you would have to envisage new YouView products that didn’t topple the NetGem off its perch. mine freezes all the time on demand and like you say they are not interested. Not the answer i wanted but I suspected that is what I would get. I have ended up investing in a freeview smart box which works flawlessly, my Youview box has been dumped in the spare room for now and acts as merely a freeview box without any extra features, as that is all its good for. I would advise anybody not to even consider getting a Youview box. If you check their online forum you will see its bombarded with unanswered complaints, as it seems they are only too aware there is an issue with these boxes but have a shrug shoulders attitude about it. Connectyour YouView box and cables WITH Powerline. You can find out more about this package here. Connectyour YouView box and cables WITHOUT Powerline Adapters. But although BT TV uses the same YouView technology, it differs from TalkTalk because it offers a set top box with a recording capabilities and storage space. TalkTalk compares well with BT for price.
You have to get your home Broadband from TalkTalk, and be on their Plus package. The Virgin TV 360 box and Sky Q box also enable you to pause-and-pick-up TV shows on multiple screens around the home.
If you decide to use it again on TalkTalk (For TalkTalk TV) again another day you may have to perform a software update for it to show up again. UK Broadband Provider TalkTalk is one of YouView’s partners, and TalkTalk’s customers can now get YouView without having to pay out for the YouView box (normally 299). The only thing that doesn't work is the TalkTalk player, that disappears on another ISP. On every occasion I have tried contacting them they reply with a standard generic reply of rebooting the box, no matter what the issue is, failing that they are prepared to send an engineer to have a look, at a cost of £150. YouView box is fully functioning, BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD, Five/Milkshake and NOW TV. Pause\rewind constantly fails, as does the on demand feature and then there's the occasional random shut down feature.
Customers opting for TalkTalk TV receive a free YouView box worth 299. I am in my 3rd week of Youview via BT, its the biggest mistake of my life. They also have to pay a separate monthly subscription for their home broadband service.
